Zimele Community

In Zulu, "Zimele" means "to stand on one's own two feet" and the vision is that the people of South Africa and eventually all of Africa can stand on their own two feet. Since our founding in 2006, Zimele has empowered over 1,200 women with the skills, resources, and support networks to build a brighter future for their families and communities. In 2011, we're serving 700 women in three communities - Swayimane, Winterton, and Mtubatuba - and by 2014, we'll be expanding into two new communities to serve a total of 1,200 women per year.

Zimele First Annual Gala

Thanks to your help, Zimele has already been able to help thousands of people in South Africa, but the need remains great. 23.5 Million South Africans are still living below the poverty line of $47/month, or about $2/day. Our goal to raise $50,000 for the organization at our gala to aid in our goal of raising over $400,000 in 2012. This will allow us to create our desired expansion of Zimele communities, provide a marketing hug for our fair-trade products, send students to school and maintain operations. It will also help us continue to implement our core strategies: life skills training, business training, savings & loan training, administrative training, project management training, mentoring and networking.

Formal attire (black tie not required).
